But the meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. (Psa 37:11)

The question I have to ask everyday is “what is the desire of my heart?”.  Do I truly desire the will of God for my life or do I desire to be recognized for my achievements, gain power and status through my accomplishments and become materially wealthy through my successes?  Clearly these characteristics are not what the Lord desires to see in my heart but nevertheless they are there.  Rather the Lord desires that I am meek, but what does being meek mean?

While there are many words that describe the concept of being meek I believe that the most poignant for us as Christians is idea of “yielding”.  The fact is that when I am willing to yield, not just to the Lord but also to my fellow humans I truly become a servant like our Lord Jesus Christ.  Why do the meek inherit the earth?  Because they are yielded to the power of Jesus Christ who has already won the battle against sin and death.

The desire for worldly power and status is contrary to the idea of the meek and yielding.  I encourage all of us today to yield to the authority and power of Jesus Christ and His Word so that we might delight ourselves in the abundance of peace that is and is to come.

Pero los mansos heredarán la tierra, Y se recrearán con abundancia de paz. (Sal 37:11)

La pregunta que me pregunto cada día es “¿cuál es el deseo de mi corazón?”.  ¿Deseo verdaderamente la voluntad de Dios para mi vida?; o en vez de eso - ¿deseo ser reconocido por las cosas que he logrado, lograr poder y posición a través de mis talentos, y ganar dinero por mis éxitos en negocios?  Es claro que aunque esas características no son los que el Señor quiere ver en mi corazón, están allí.  En vez de eso el Señor quiere que yo sea manso, pero en realidad ¿qué significa de ser manso?

Aunque son muchas palabras para describir el concepto de la mansedumbre, creo que el significado más importante esta llevado por la idea de ser condescendiente.  La verdad es que cuando estoy dispuesto de ceder mi voluntad no solo a Jesus pero también a mi hermano, yo llegue a ser un siervo como nuestro Señor Cristo Jesus.  ¬¿Por qué hereda la tierra los mansos?  Porque están cedido a la voluntad y poder de Cristo Jesus quien ya ha ganado la victoria sobre el pecado y la muerte.

El deseo para poder mundano y posición esta al contrario a la idea de ser manso y condescendiente.  Yo impulso a todos nosotros hoy en día de rendirnos a la autoridad y poder de Cristo Jesus y su palabra para que nos recreemos en la abundancia de paz que es y es por venir.

“Porque contigo está el manantial de la vida; En tu luz veremos la luz.” (Salmo 36:9)

El Manantial de la Juventud representa la oportunidad de vivir para siempre y nunca muere.  Muchas personas han buscado el Manantial de la Juventud por miles de años sin encontrarlo aunque la verdad es que  hace casi dos mil años que se puede encontrar algo mucho mejor fácilmente - el manantial de la vida.  Como declara David, el manantial de la vida está con Dios y además este manantial vino a la tierra para proveer la vida eterna para todos.  Este manantial tiene nombre; su nombre es Jesus y es Cristo.

Si no tienes una relación con Jesus no tienes la bendita esperanza de la vida eterna, “sino una horrenda expectación de juicio” (Heb 10:27) y como sigue diciendo en el libro de Hebreos, “!!Horrenda cosa es caer en manos del Dios vivo!” (Heb 10:31).  La buena noticia es que, aunque ya estamos condenados a la muerte, a través de la obra de Jesus en la cruz en Calvario tenemos la oportunidad de tomar del manantial de la vida y escapar nuestra sentencia.  Jesus ya pagó el precio para todos nuestros pecados, solo necesitamos creer en El.  Como dice Pablo a los Romanos “que si confesares con tu boca que Jesús es el Señor, y creyeres en tu corazón que Dios le levantó de los muertos, serás salvo. Porque con el corazón se cree para justicia, pero con la boca se confiesa para salvación.“  (Rom 10:9-10)

Aunque el mundo queda en las tinieblas, Jesus es la luz del mundo y solo por El podemos ver esperanza y luz verdadera.

“For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light.” (Psa 36:9)

The Fountain of Youth represents the opportunity for people to to live forever and never die.  People have searched for this Fountain of Youth for millennia with no success while the fact is that something far better has been readily available for around two thousand years - the fountain of life.  As David clearly states, the fountain of life is with God and moreover two thousand years ago that fountain came to this earth to provide eternal life for all, His name was Jesus Christ.

If you do not have a relationship with Jesus Christ you do not have the blessed hope of eternal life, only the “certain fearful expectation of judgment” (Heb 10:27) and as it goes on to say in Hebrews, “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” (Heb 10:31)  The good news is that, although we are doomed, through the saving work of Christ Jesus on the cross at Calvary we have an opportunity to drink from that fountain of life.  Jesus paid the price for all of our sins and all we need to do is believe.  As Paul stated to the Romans “if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Rom 10:9-10)

Though the world is in darkness, Jesus is the light of the world and only through Him we can truly see hope and light.

Psalm 35:11-13

11 Fierce witnesses rise up;
They ask me things that I do not know.
12 They reward me evil for good,
To the sorrow of my soul.
13 But as for me, when they were sick,
My clothing was sackcloth;
I humbled myself with fasting;
And my prayer would return to my own heart.

Jesus said “I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you” (Mat 5:44).  This concept of forgiveness and grace is not just a nicety of the Christian walk but needs to be a core element.  We have been forgiven much and need to have a heart of forgiveness.  Even after the Lord instructed the disciples how to pray in Matthew 6, He made it very clear that we are not to harbor anything against anyone in our hearts, even our enemies (Mat 6:14-15).  Likewise in Matthew 18, upon instructing Peter on forgiveness, Jesus tells the story of a servant who was forgiven much (more than $10 million dollars) but failed to forgive the small debt (less than $20 dollars) owed to him by another.  In fact, that servant has the other thrown into prison until he can pay his small debt.  I encourage all of us to meditate on what the Lord said regarding the unforgiving servant:

‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?’ And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him. “So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.” (Mat 18:32-35)

Salmos 35:11-13

11 Se levantan testigos malvados;
De lo que no sé me preguntan;
12 Me devuelven mal por bien,
Para afligir a mi alma.
13 Pero yo, cuando ellos enfermaron, me vestí de cilicio;
Afligí con ayuno mi alma,
Y mi oración se volvía a mi seno.

Jesus dijo “Pero yo os digo: Amad a vuestros enemigos, bendecid a los que os maldicen, haced bien a los que os aborrecen, y orad por los que os ultrajan y os persiguen” (Mat 5:44).  Este concepto de perdón y gracia no solo es un detalle del camino cristiano sino un elemento fundamental.  Nosotros hemos sido perdonados mucho y necesitamos tener un corazón indulgente.  También después de instruir los discípulos sobre la oración en Mateo 6, fue muy claro de que no debemos tener nada contra nadie aun nuestros enemigos (Mat 6:14-15).  Asimismo en Mateo 18, después de hablar con Pedro sobre el perdón, Jesus cuenta una historia de un siervo que fue perdonado mucho (más de 10 millones de dólares) pero después no perdona una deuda pequeña (menos de 20 dólares) que otro siervo le debe a él.  Además de eso, echa el otro siervo en el cárcel hasta que pueda pagar su deuda pequeña.  Nos impulso a todos nosotros meditar en lo que dice nuestro Señor en cuanto al siervo implacable:

‘Siervo malvado, toda aquella deuda te perdoné, porque me rogaste. ¿No debías tú también tener misericordia de tu consiervo, como yo tuve misericordia de ti?’ Entonces su señor, enojado, le entregó a los verdugos, hasta que pagase todo lo que le debía. “Así también mi Padre celestial hará con vosotros si no perdonáis de todo corazón cada uno a su hermano sus ofensas.” (Mat 18:32-35)

“Jehová redime el alma de sus siervos; Y no serán asolados cuantos en él confían.” (Sal 34:22)

Una verdad sencilla pero una que olvidamos frecuentemente.  Tú sirves el creador del universo, pon tu confianza en él y nada te avergonzará.  Aunque podemos ser burlados y perseguidos aquí en la tierra, tenemos la confianza que Dios no va a pasar por alto ninguna de esas tribulaciones.  Nuestro Dios utiliza cada situación que encontramos para perfeccionarnos.  Como Pedro nos recuerde:

“En lo cual vosotros os alegráis, estando al presente un poco de tiempo afligidos en diversas tentaciones, si es necesario, Para que la prueba de vuestra fe, mucho más preciosa que el oro, el cual perece, bien que sea probado con fuego, sea hallada en alabanza, gloria y honra, cuando Jesucristo fuera manifestado” (1Pe 1:6-7)

Dios es bastante grande para proveer todos sus necesidades.  Tu Dios redime el alma sus siervos y reconociendo esto puedes estar “confiado de esto, que el que comenzó en vosotros la buena obra, la perfeccionará hasta el día de Jesucristo” (Fil 1:6)

“The LORD redeems the soul of His servants, And none of those who trust in Him shall be condemned.” (Psa 34:22)

Such a simple truth but something that we often forget.  You are serving the creator of the universe, put your full trust in him and you will not be ashamed.  Though we may suffer ridicule and persecutions here on earth we have the confidence to know that none of our tribulations are overlooked by God; God uses every situation we encounter to refine us into the people he wants us to be.  As Peter reminds us:

“In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (1Pe 1:6-7)

Your God is big enough to supply all of your needs.  Your God redeems the souls of his servants and knowing this we can be “confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Php 1:6)
